Mr. John is the principal of Starr King Elementary School. He is from Evanston Illinois. This is his first year at Starr King. He speaks English and some Spanish.

What is your favorite thing about Starr King?

“Being at a school that has a lot of hope and promise and people that want to make that happen.”

What’s one surprising thing about you that most people at Starr King don’t know?

“Right now, in a big way this school is my life right now.”

Ms. Chang, 张玮伦, also known as Zhang Laoshi, teaches Kindergarten in the Mandarin immersion program. She is from Taipei, Taiwan. This is her fifth year at Starr King.

What is your favorite thing about Starr King?

“I simply can’t imagine doing anything else, my job is my hobby, I get to do art, I get to talk, and I get to spending time with children! I love being at Starr King because we are making history!”

What’s one surprising thing about you that most people at Starr King don’t know?

“I lived alone with my little sister in the States when I was 14.”

Ms. Merlos is the school secretary. She is from Puerto Barros, Guatemala. She has been at Starr King for three years. She speaks English and Spanish.

What’s your favorite thing about Starr King?

The kids, the staff, everyone’s friendly and nice.

What’s one surprising thing about you that most people at Starr King don’t know?

I like to do daring sports, like bungee jumping and parachuting.

“The students.”

Ms. Simmons is Starr King’s 2nd grade teacher in the general education program. She is in room 209. She is from the San Francisco Bay area. This is her 11th year teaching at Starr King.

What I your favorite thing about Starr King?

“I love the diversity of the school. And I love how the staff are so open to sharing ideas and helping each other.”

What’s one surprising thing about you that most people at Starr King don’t know?

“I love video games. We have a Wii and an Xbox at home.”
