What are Starr King’s school hours?

8:40 – 2:40, although at 8:00 breakfast and Books for Breakfast begin in the cafeteria, and at 8:20 yard supervision and Playworks begin.

Is there a dress code?

Yes. Starr King is a uniform school. The uniform is navy blue bottoms (skirts, pants, shorts or jumpers) and white shirts with collars, no logos. Shorts are useful under skirts. Blue jeans do not count as navy blue pants. Any color socks, tights, shoes, or jackets are fine.

Who was Thomas Starr King?

The school is named for the Rev. Thomas Starr King, a Unitarian minister credited by President Lincoln with keeping California in the Union during the beginning of the Civil War. He was born December 17, 1824, in New York City. A famous New England preacher, he came to California in 1860 to become head of the First Unitarian Church in San Francisco. During the Civil War he worked tirelessly to raise money for the Union cause, especially wounded soldiers. He died in San Francisco on March 4, 1864.
